According to Marijuana Momenta on May 9, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is pushing for marijuana legislation and a new bill to legalize marijuana. He said the widespread legalization of marijuana across the United States was a "great experiment" in which citizens in both conservative and liberal states enjoyed more freedom.
Schumer, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker and other Democratic senators joined together last week to reintroduce a bill to federally legalize marijuana. The Justice Department also announced a historic policy shift on the reclassification of marijuana.
Schumer said that while the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) decision to propose a reclassification of marijuana is a "historic step forward," he remains "strongly committed" to advancing marijuana banking and legalization legislation during this session.
Meanwhile, the White House on Wednesday declined to say whether President Joe Biden personally supports the Justice Department's marijuana reclassification plan after a review.
